The programme of exchange is focused on developing high-performance and functional nanostructured coatings able to withstand wear and corrosion hard conditions present during life-in service of many components for several industries.

The programme of exchange is focused on developing high-performance and functional nanostructured coatings able to withstand wear and corrosion hard conditions present during life-in service of many components for several industries.

During the FUNCTIONAL exchanging scheme new advanced techniques will be developed in order to create functional and nanostructured coatings over aluminium and magnesium alloys. Both FSBTs, such as Friction Stir Processing (FSP) and Friction Surfacing (FS), and LBD will be used (WP2). The UFPE and COMIMSA will get better their knowledge from AIMEN and HZG related to FSBTs and LBD for obtained high-performance functional surfaces.


Moreover, it is worth considering mechanical alloying, a well-developed processing in order to obtain nanostructured powder. Mechanical alloying at cryogenic temperatures -cryomilling- is more effective in this capacity due to low temperature by slowing recovery and minimizing diffusion between different components to obtain nanostructured powders (WP1). AIMEN and HZG will gain knowledge in this technique. Finally, both nanostructured powders and functional coatings will be characterized (WP3) in UFPE and COMIMSA by AIMEN and HZG fellows.


Strengthening collaboration between European R&D centres of excellence and other organizations from Brazil and Mexico will be promoted to reinforce the S&T potential of the involved partners. Sustainable research cooperation between EU countries and Brazil and Mexico will be created during and beyond the project promoting the creation of active and formal partnerships between the partners (WP4 and WP5).
