  • Development of new research capacities
  • Maintaining sustainable research cooperation between EU countries and Brazil and Mexico during the project and beyond it.

The FUNCTIONAL exchange programme is technically focused on:

  • Developing high-performance wear and corrosion resistant coatings.
  • Using new advanced techniques such as laser and friction stir based techniques in order to create these functional surfaces.

The four participating institutions are the following:

  • Asociación de Investigación Metalúrgica del Noroeste – AIMEN (ES), Coordinator of the Project.
  • Helmholtz Zentrum Geesthacht - Centre for Materials and Coastal Research -HZG (DE)
  • Universidade Federal de Pernambuco – UFPE (BR)
  • Corporación Mexicana de Investigación en Materiales - COMIMSA (MX)

FUNCTIONAL project(Grant Agreement nº 295254) has received funding from the European Commission under the programme FP7-People- Marie Curie Actions- International Staff Exchange Scheme, IRSES, a new implementation modality aiming to help research organisations to set up or strengthen long-term cooperation with others, through a coordinated exchange programme for their staff.
